Growing Practices

IPM and Pesticides

We are stewards of the land. For us, farming is not simply a way to make a living, it’s our way of life. We hope to pass this life on to our kids and grandkids, just as Tom’s parents and grandparents did for him. Our farming practices are sustainable and considerate of the environment, and we are proud of them.

We often are asked if we spray or use pesticides. Yes we do, but out of necessity, with responsible and strategic purpose. Godfrey’s Farm provides conventionally grown produce, using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices to deter pests and limit pesticide use.

IPM, as defined by the EPA, is the effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management. Our farm uses professional scouts to help implement our program which uses knowledge of pest life cycles and their natural deterrents to cause the least possible hazard to the environment.

IPM is used in combination with effective and targeted pesticide use to reduce loss of crop and maintain top quality produce.

Food Safety

Producing safe products is of the highest importance to us. We work in accordance with the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) program, and have developed a food safety plan to provide our customers with the most safe, fresh and delicious product possible. With more than 30 years of growing experience, we continue to ensure a company-wide commitment to this goal.
